I have been buying plastic bowls as fillers at $.29 each or 4 for $1.00. Just an FYI, my friend has some expired register rewards she was able to use last night. They scanned just fine.

Filler items are definitely going to be something I need to concentrate on. My last trip I wandered and wandered and couldn't come up with much of anything. There wasn't anything on the clearance racks I could use and I couldn't find any pencils. I did find bubbles 2/$1 and my kids always enjoy those. I have learned to think outside the box when it comes to filler items! We all make mistakes (sometimes with each weekly sale!) but if you attempt to plan down to the penny you will not be tempted to spend close to $1 on a filler item at the register. I usually park my cart on a deserted aisle and plan out my transactions/coupons. As Tara and others have mentioned, there are a lot of great clearance items in the clearance section and markdowns in cosmetics. I have also found discounted feminine products for .50 and other items throughout the store so don’t be limited in your thought process. My husband and I got some really neat tiny yellow highlighters for .17 each and I was able to use a $5 RR for each one!

whimsygirl, I only thought of it myself the other day! I was stressing about how to use up my fistfull of RRs when I already had coups for everything and it dawned on me, why only use a .75 MQ when I had big RRs? I’ll try to do it that way more often now.

Just a couple of notes and forgive me if I am repeating someone else’s comments! I purchased 8 of the Hunt’s Snack Pack puddings for $10 and received my $3 RR. The register also printed out a MQ for .75 off 3 or more snack packs. I took a chance and used that MQ (not the RR, though!) to pay for 8 more packs and it worked and still printed out the $3 RR for the 2nd set! Now I have $20 worth of product for the Conagra Rewards also http://www.simpleanddelicious.com/downloads/coupon-booklet.pdf .

Another FYI: the MIR for the Bayer Meters is expired, but according to their toll free number they have extended it indefinitely. I bought a meter without a coupon to get the MIR and still “made” $5 from the RR!

I went in the other day and got 2 of the 2.5oz aveenos and had to get something else because they didn’t have another one. I got some revitalize thing I thought was 5.99 it ended up being in the wrong spot and was 15.99, but with all three items it rang my travel kit up free. I told her to void that because I thought it was a different price and I went and got and aveeno baby for 3.99 and then the travel kit wouldnt ring free for some reason, so the manager came and adjusted it. No questions asked. So I think they are just suppose to ring them up with your three purchases. And by the way the travel kit was on one of the end caps at the front of the health and beauty section.

I have been doing the deals at Waga for a while & never had any problems using coupons with the RRs. The cashier & the manager even voided out one order to try it another way to try & get the rrs. The manager said at the meeting they were told the manufacters were the ones who stopped the use of using the 2 together. My husband works at Wags, & he had the option to go to the meeting & he didn’t, now I wish he had. He is going to find out more about it today. I guess people were getting to good of deals. I was told the rrs are just another coupon and can’t be used anymore as cash, so if you use it with another coupon, it gets voided, or you don’t get the rrs for the item you are buying, if it has rrs. It was very disappointing. I looked forward to getting all my deals.

I used coupons and RR without problem yesterday. Many, many of each. Did you try to use them or did the manager just say you couldn't? WOW- IS ANYONE ELSE REALIZING THAT ALL THE WALGREENS SEEM TO HAVE DIFFERENT “POLICIES” and “RULES”?!?! Has anyone ever emailed Walgreens corporate office to find out the “whole story” on their coupon/RR policies? I would love some IN WRITING FACTS, some RULES for this game! I’m really sick of hearing what worked for one person did not work for others. Seriously, does anyone have some concrete FACTS?

Tracy K - putting the RR's first instead of last must not work at all locations. I always give my RR's first and sure enough, if I don't have the same number of items as coupons and RR's I'm using, the register beeps. They did have $0.03 pencils in the clearance section today though so that's not too bad for a filler item! I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the Aveeno Travel Kit? I asked the cosmetic counter and they said they didn't have them and that a receipt would probably print out on the Catalina machine. Well, it didn't. I'm thinking my store hasn't gotten the travel kits yet and they are supposed to give them out? I hope they'll believe me when I take my receipt back in to show I made a purchase of 3 Aveeno products and didn't get a travel kit. April´s last blog post..Walgreens for 5/4

I made my weekly trip to Walgreens , I had several orders figured out, like I have in the past. Things have changed. I couldn’t use coupons on items that I got RR’s, or I wouldn’t get the RR’s. I couldn’t use RR’s to pay for any item that you got RR’s for, or you didn’t get the RR’s. I wasn’t just paying for 1 item with another RR, I had several items that didn’t have RR’s with them. It can’t be in the same order. I had a really nice cashier and the store manager. We tried different ways and it just wouldn’t work. The manager said the manufacters of the RR’s and the coupons are the ones making the change. No one else has mentioned this happening to them.

I’m feeling pretty frustrated about it as well. Lots of $2 RR, they can be hard to use up.

Still good deals to be had – but I’ll have to think more carefully about which ones are really worth it. If I have to buy a $1 filler, a $2 RR isn’t worth as much.

Hopefully I can come up with a lot of multi item/coupon trx.

I also use milk as a filler because it’s something I would be buying anyway and it’s usually pretty much the same price as my grocery store.

Julia: at Walgreens, I have found by trial and error that if the cashier runs the RR thru 1st, all manufacturer coupons will come off! If they ring them in with the manuf. coupons first and you then the RR, and the total number of coupons exceeds number of items, the RR will beep! I’ve had cashiers redo my transactions in these instances and it works everytime!

Patcheepoo: Extracare Bucks can be used with a manufacturer’s coupon. I frequently use multiple coupons (CVS+mfg) for an item and then use my ExtraBucks to “pay” the balance. I would consult a manager if you have this problem in the future! I have been to many CVS stores in several different states and never once had a problem using more coupons and EB than I had items.

Katie – I do lots of MIRs and have never had a problem getting the full price back when I’ve used a coupon or RR to pay. Some rebates specify that if you do use a coupon they will take that value off the rebate, but it usually specifies that on the form. I usually try to pay rebate items along with several other items. That way the rebate company can’t really tell if a coupon or RR was used for that item. But I have heard that some people have been refused rebates for blood glucose monitors if they use a coupon that makes it free.

I have a couple questions: My first question is for Tara and other people who make multiple purchases every week? Where on earth do you put all the stuff you buy? I am running out of room. And some of you get 10+ of each of these free with RR items? Do you sell them online? SEcond question is this: if there is an item with a try me free peelie and it’s a MIR are they going to send me the money is I used a RR and it looks on the receipt as if I used a MQ that made it free? Anyone ever tried this? Thanks.

I WANT TO MAKE A NOTE TO ALL NEWBEE’S FOR I AM MYSELF AND AM STILL LEARNING.
I DIDN’T KNOW (THOUGH IT SAYS IT RIGHT ON THE EBC’S IN SMALL PRINT) THAT IF YOU HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF COUPONS FOR THE SAME NUMBER OF ITEMS YOUR PURCHASING YOU CAN NOT USE THE EBC’S. FOR EX: I WENT TO PURCHASE THE SHOE INSOLES AND SCHICK RAZOR. FOR THE INSOLES I USED A COUPON FROM MY SUNDAY INSERT FOR $10 OFF AND FOR THE RAZOR I USED A $4 COUPON ALSO FROM SAME SUNDAY INSERT. THAT LEFT MY BALANCE AT $6.32 BALANCE. I TRIED TO USE A $2 EBC AND IT WOULDN’T WORK. THE CASHIER SAID YOU CAN ONLY USE AS MANY COUPONS AS YOU HAVE ITEMS. I WAS UNDER AN INCORRECT ASSUMTION THAT THE EBC’S WERE LIKE CASH. THEY ARE CONSIDERED COUPONS.

Stella, yes, you will earn RRs, but only if the deal you use the RRs is different from the deal you earned them from. So you can’t buy the Colgate toothpaste and then turn around and use the RRs earned from it to purchase another Colgate toothpaste. The RRs will not print again if you do that.
