Help. Someone who know more about the Nintendo DS Lite and DSI than me. My two boys ages 7 and 5 want these for Christmas. I’m not sure which one to get. This bundle sale seems pretty good considering it comes with some games so I won’t have to spend $20 on each game I buy but I was planning on trying to get to Walmart to get the DSI Lite for $98. Is there a big difference in the DSi and the DS lite and which one would be the best for my boys. I’ve never tried one so I have no idea. Any suggestions would be great.

The ds lite is the game system. The dsi is the same game system that also includes a camera and the ability to go online(it can have an Internet connection). Other than the camera and the internet, they are the same system.

If I could do it over again, I’d have waited to purchase the DSi for my kids. I think the downloadable games and camera are fantastic features and worth the additional price.

First off, unless you have a wireless internet connection at your home there is no need to get the DSI. If you have wireless internet the DSI is a lot better then the ds lite, It has bigger screens, better sound, and many other features. The games that come preloaded with the amazon deal are games that would usually be purchased using points, 2000 points cost 20 dollars.
* Mario Calculator= 200 points
* Mario Clock=200 points
* WarioWare: Snapped!=500 points
* Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!=800 points
* Dr. Mario Express=500 points
If you purchased the DSI separate and were to download these games yourself they would cost $22.00 total. So you are essential getting over $190.00 worth of stuff for the 154.98, but remember there won’t be any shipping or tax on top of that.
I would like to note though that the mario calculator and clock are exactly what they sound like, I wouldn’t consider them games, and if they weren’t preloaded on the DSI I doubt kids would want t purchase them.

If it were me purchasing this for my younger kids, there is no way I would get one with internet capability.

Miranda,
We have the original ds and the ds lite. My brother in law has the dsi so I am familiar with all of them. I personally like the ds lite better, because it has another cartridge spot for Gameboy Advance games. and it’s a lot cheaper than the dsi. The best thing about the dsi is the capability to download new/special “available by download only” games/features (like the mario calculator). You do have to have wifi in order to download these, but if you dont have it at home, you could always go to McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts or wherever else has wifi (maybe even your neighbors?? hahaha). The camera is not all that impressive in my opinion because the mega pixel quality is low, BUT for children, to take a pic of the cat and manipulate it, that would be fun for them…. And like the one person mentioned, you are not getting several “games” with the mario bundle. Good luck :-)

I have been researching the DSi and Ds Lite recently. I read on a review somewhere that basically if you do not have Gameboy Games to play then go for the newer technology with the DSi rather than the DS Lite.

I want to purchase the Nintendo DSi Bundle for $157.98, but when I check Amazon.com it’s priced at $169.99. I’m confused big time. Please help! Thanks!!!

Did you click through the link in the post, Iris? I still see the $154.98 price listed.

Thanks for all the great advice. I decided to get the DSi’s and I think my boys are going to love them. I still can’t believe I’m spending $155 on one present. Yikes. I miss the days when all they wanted was pirate ships and action figures. My sister with 4 older boys assures me it get more expensive with age. Her oldest wants a laptop. Yesh!

They must be out of them. = ( They are $249 now and no free shipping.

14 Tara Kuczykowski November 25, 2009 at 5:31 pm

They’re still available, Melanie. Make sure you’re clicking on the Nintendo DSi bundle link in the post.

I did click it, but only the white is still available. I really wanted the Mario one. I’m always a day late! =(

I actually looked at all the ads about an hour ago and saw that the DSi bundles are all $169.99 at the stores, so I went online to see what the prices are and did a search on amazon and found the bundles for $154.98. I didn’t do the free prime, but still went with the free shipping..it has plenty of time to get here for Christmas.

I wanted to point out that in addition to the Mario bundle, the brain games bundle is also the same price. My husband actually wanted a DSi for Christmas and he specifically mentioned wanting the brain games, so this was the cheapest way to go for me. I’m sure a Ds lite would have been fine for him, but the bundle would end up being cheaper once I added in the price of the games…plus..he might like to mess with the other features. who knows
